The Atlanta Police Department has released footage of a suspect who is wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a young girl.
8-year-old Secoriea turner was shot on July 4 during demonstrations outside the Wendy’s where Rayshard Brooks was fatally shot by an Atlanta police officer.
The young girl died when armed men opened fire on her mother’s car while they were driving through a roadblock created by demonstrators.
Police officers are now searching for four suspects in connection with the fatal shooting. The incident also promoted mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms to tell protesters that ‘enough is enough.’
The surveillance footage shows the suspect in a white T-shirt, sneakers and black pants carrying an AR-15 assault rifle in the area of Pryor Road and University Avenue.
Lt. Pete Malecki said to reporters that authorities believe the shots were intentionally fired at the mother’s car when it crossed the barricade created by protesters.
The mother’s 2016 Jeep Cherokee was hit by at least eight bullets and the 8-year-old was taken to Atlanta Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries.
“She was only 8 years old,” her mother, Charmaine Turner, expressed. “She would have been on Tik Tok dancing on her phone, just got done eating. We understand the frustration of Rayshard Brooks. We didn’t have anything to do with that. We’re innocent. My baby didn’t mean no harm.”
The girl’s father, Secoriya Williamson, said his daughter just wanted to see her cousins.
“They say Black lives matter,” he said. “You killed your own.”
The victim’s sister set up a GoFundMe page, saying Secoriea was a star student at Kipp Academy and loved spending time with her loved ones.
Her mother also wrote: “She loved the simple things in life and now her life has been taken. ‘This tragedy has caused tremendous hurt and indescribable pain as we look to put the pieces to our lives back together and seek justice for our little girl.”
