An aggressive police officer was caught on camera pushing a kneeling woman to the ground as he passed by her during a protest in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Following the death of George Floyd, who passed out and died moments after police officer Derek Chauvin was kneeling on his neck, protests against police brutality have begun taking place all over the country with their epicenter in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
While some protests are peaceful and even supported by the police, there are also those that consist of violence, destruction of property, and looting.
In Fort Lauderdale, a relatively peaceful protest had been underway when things took a turn for the worse as a male police officer pushed an unsuspecting kneeling woman to the ground as he passed by.
Following the inappropriate actions of the police officer, the crowd started an uproar whereas a female cop confronted and yelled at the aggressive officer.
After the footage went viral, social media users slammed the abusive cop and demanded justice. Meanwhile, they praised the female cop who went against her colleague and scolded him for his actions.
The police officer has later been identified as Steven Pohorence. According to Local10, the cop has been suspended pending an investigation.
“That officer has been removed from any contact with the public,” Chief Rick Maglione allegedly confirmed.
As for the heroic female cop who came to the protestor’s rescue, she has been identified as Krystle Smith. Despite receiving a lot of praise on the internet, the woman remained humble and insisted she only did “what she was supposed to do.”
