New York City Vows To Cut All Contracts With President Trump After Capitol Riot

In the wake of backlash the President has been facing following the Wednesday riot at the US Capitol, New York City has begun cutting ties with Trump and his family.

Shortly after the President has been banned from major social media networks and not long after Signature Bank and Deutsche Bank vowed to stop all dealings with Trump, NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that the City of New York would be canceling contracts they have with Trump Organization.

Condemning the insurrection, the Democratic mayor insisted the city has “the right to sever the contract” with companies linked to criminal activities – in this case, the alleged insurrection.

“The city of NY is severing all contracts with the Trump Organization,” de Blasio revealed on Wednesday as he appeared on MSNBC’s Morning Joe.

“Our legal team has done an assessment and the contracts make very clear, if a company or the leadership of that company is engaged in criminal activity, we have the right to sever the contract.

“Inciting an insurrection, let’s be clear I am going to say those words again, inciting an insurrection against the United States Government clearly constitutes criminal activity.

The contracts mentioned by the NYC mayor refer to the Trump Organization’s management of Bronx’s Ferry Point Golf Course, the Central Park carousel, and the city’s iconic ice-skating rinks.

“Right now, the Trump Organization profits about $17 million a year from these contracts. They cover four different sites, three in Manhattan, one in the Bronx, different entertainment sites,” de Blasio added.

“And look, it’s quite clear, the President of the United States directed a mob to attack the U. S. Congress during the Electoral College vote. That’s – I mean, even saying the words, it’s almost impossible to believe.”

Following his appearance on Morning Joe, de Blasio doubled down on his comments in an official statement.

“The President incited a rebellion against the United States government that killed five people and threatened to derail the constitutional transfer of power,” the statement read.

“The City of New York will not be associated with those unforgivable acts in any shape, way or form, and we are immediately taking steps to terminate all Trump Organization contracts.”
