The altercation took place in Central Park, New York City in a part of the park known as the Ramble. All dogs are asked to have a leash on – a regulation that 41 year old Amy Cooper was not abiding by. Christian Cooper, a 57 year old black man, politely told her to leash her dog.

The woman said that she was just giving her dog some time to exercise, to which the male replied she can do that just across a fence in a different part of the park where dogs are not required to be on a leash. When she refused, Cooper said he will go ahead and do what needs to be done.

As Christian reached for dog snacks that he says he carries for this reason, Amy yelled at him to not touch her dog. It was at this point that Christian began recording the whole situation. When Christian refuses to stop filming despite Amy asking him to, she says she will call the police.

During the call, Amy said that an African-American male in a bicycle helmet is recording and threatening her and her dog. When the call ended, Amy leashed her dog and moved on. Christian thanked her for doing so, and stopped filming the scene.

Christian said that he continued to film the altercation because he wanted to show her that he was not intimidated by the situation. Racial tensions within the US have been on the rise again as the news of Ahmaud Arbery has stoked this centuries-old issue once more.

The repercussions for her misjudgment has been swift and severe for Amy Cooper. Her employers, Franklin Templeton, announced that she has been put on an administrative leave, adding that the firm does not take the issues of race lightly.

Moreover, Cooper also returned her pooch to the original center where she adopted the dog from. The center said that the owner wanted them to take care of the dog until this issue is settled with.
