Nursing Home Resident Cried After Being Served Awful Meal For Christmas


Nursing home residents were served plates of mashed potatoes and baked beans for Christmas that looked awful.

Elderly residents at Vales Nursing Home in Adelaide were served an awful meal of baked beans and mashed potatoes on Christmas Day and a visitor sent the picture of the plates to local state MP Nat Cook.

A nursing home visitor said that the residents cried after they were served the awful meal.

“The poor dear was sobbing in her room with what she had been served to eat, in her room and alone,” the visitor said.

Ms. Cook said about the food: “This is a particularly awful looking plate of food on any day, but on Christmas.’

She then spoke to the staff and chief executive Neil Pahujaat of the Vales Nursing Home in Adelaide.

The nursing home said that the meal the elderly residents were served was not their Christmas lunch.

The nursing home admitted that the mashed potato and beans were ‘very poorly presented’ but it was a light evening meal.

A spokesperson for the nursing home said: “We will definitely investigate If the posted image was served as an evening meal alternative and immediately ensure such meals even as a lighter meal are served in a far more appetising way.”

“We serve approximately 185,000 meals a year and expect all to be of a high standard. We are monitoring the matter closely to ensure no lack in presentation or quality in food occurs at any stage.”

It said that the residents were served traditional ham, pumpkin, potatoes, and other vegetables and drinks for Christmas lunch.

While the main Christmas meal was served on Christmas Eve which included roast, soup and dessert.
