40-year-old Leanne Wallace used an 84-year-old dying patient’s bank card to pay her loan and bills of expensive items from multiple stores.
According to a source, Leslie Rushworth was suffering from anorexia and pneumonia and was about to die. Seeing the apparent future, a nurse took advantage of his vulnerable state and used his bank card. She bought a $699 bed, a $74 wallpaper, and a few other items from stores like Amazon. She even paid her loan of $900 with the stolen money.
The patient died after a few days.
Nobody suspected anything about the theft. After a few days, Leslie Rushworth’s son noticed some messages on his deceased father’s phone indicating the shopping. He was startled to see the messages as his father was too weak in those days to even talk to someone, so how is it possible that he did all this shopping.
Later, when the family investigated, it was disclosed that the bed, wallpaper, and all other items were delivered to one of his father’s nurses home. After it was confirmed that the nurse had been stealing money from the patient’s bank account, legal action was taken by the victim’s family.
Leanne Wallace first tried to pull a stunt and said that the patient offered her the money after knowing about her loan.
Later, she accepted her crime when asked about the expensive bed and other insignificant items. The court has sentenced her to stay in jail for 14 months as she has devastated the reputation of health care workers, and the repute of the hospital is also affected. The used money is given back to the victim’s family.
The 40-year-old criminal has pleaded for mercy in the court and informed the judges about her devastated and disappointed state, but no amendment in her punishment has been made. She even said that she is upset and in pain about all the damage caused to the patient’s family.
