A nurse has assaulted and strangled his doctor girlfriend after suspecting her of spreading coronavirus to him.
The bizarre incident occurred in Messina, Sicily, where Antonio De Pace called the police and admitted killing his student doctor girlfriend, Lorena Quaranta.
According to what Pace told the authorities, he strangled his girlfriend because he suspected her of giving him coronavirus.
After the police arrived at his flat, they found the doctor’s lifeless body laying next to the nurse who cut his wrists in an attempted suicide following the murder of his girlfriend.
As Pace was being treated for his injuries at the hospital, he allegedly told the police he “killed her because she gave me coronavirus.”
Despite the man’s claims, the police doubt he’s telling everything there is to the story. As tests carried out after the murder took place have revealed, neither Quaranta nor Pace have coronavirus.
Just days prior to her passing, Quaranta, who will be awarded a medical degree posthumously, urged people to stick together during the pandemic in a touching social media post.
“Now more than ever we need to demonstrate responsibility and love for life. You must show respect for yourselves, your families and the country,” the doctor wrote.
“You must think and remember those that dedicate their lives daily to looking after our sick. Let’s stick together everyone staying at home. Let’s avoid the next one falling sick is a loved one or ourselves.”
Paying a tribute to his girlfriend just weeks before murdering her was also Pace who wrote:
“To reach our dreams you have to work hard with determination and you are proof. I wish you to keep chasing your dreams, always live the life you always imagined. Well done! Congratulations on your brilliant graduation doctor.”
The investigation is ongoing.
