North Korea has recently banned the use of leather coats amid growing fears that citizens might be making attempts to copy the country’s dictator ruler’s look.

According to local media reports, Kim Jong Un is known to be a hardcore fan of leather and that’s why you might be seeing him often in coats made from that material.

For those who may not know, the trend of leather coats became very popular in the year 2019, which is exactly when the dictator began sporting the look in public.

At the start, those who couldn’t afford leather were forced to resort to cheaper means and that means coats that were made from leather substitutes. And that’s when the trend of faux leather attire has taken over the nation by storm, especially in the colder seasons.

Now, state authorities have expressed their great concern regarding how cheap knock-offs are being made available at cheaper rates and with absolute convenience. More and more citizens began donning the look like a fashion statement too and that has resulted in growing concern across the board.

For this reason, fashion police have been deployed across the streets of North Korea to confiscate any leather coats being worn by ordinary citizens as the trend is now being reserved solely for Kim Jong Un only.

“They don’t want anyone cheapening the leader’s look, he is the Supreme Leader and they feel the trend is off-limits for others,” explained one report.

Others spoke about how authorities hold the school of thought that if citizens began donning the trend, it would undermine his authority too.
