Nobody had ever thought that an old bra can save the life of a turtle. Turtle rescuers are using old bras clasps to save injured turtles.

“Bras just came up,” Gordon told CNN, adding that the rehab center has kept the item on their wish list for months without donations.

They have come up with a clever solution of recycling worn-out bras by using the clasps to secure cracked and broken turtle shells. It can take 6 to 8 weeks for a fractured turtle shell to recover completely.

The organization says that they have been treating about 40 turtles every week.

The rescue organization, which is based out of Indian Trail, North Carolina, recently posted on Facebook about this and asked if women could send out their old bras for recycling.

The post on Waterfowl Rescue Facebook page reads: ”We work closely with our friends at Common Heart who run a thrift store and a food pantry,”

”If we get any bras and they are usable, they will be donated there. Unusable ones will have the clasps recycled for the turtles.”
