NFL star Vincent Jackson was reportedly found dead in his hotel room in Florida at the age of 38.
The 38-year-old former wide receiver was discovered dead by a Homewood Suites housekeeper, whereas his body has since been taken to Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s Office for a postmortem investigation.
As of this writing, it is not clear what the cause of death was. According to the reports, the young man had no visible signs of trauma when his body was found.
The former Buccaneers and Charges star was a father-of-three who lived with his wife Lindsey VanDeweghe in their Tampa mansion at Palma Ceia Golf and Country Club.
Nevertheless, the 38-year-old was staying at Homewood Suites, a hotel near his home, since January 11 according to the staff.
While it remains unclear why the NFL veteran was separated from his family, Jackson was allegedly reported missing on February 10. The police found him two days later and assessed his well-being. On February 16, however, Jackson was found dead in his hotel room by a housekeeper.
In a touching tribute to the NFL star, Hillsborough Sheriff Chad Chronister dubbed Jackson a devoted man who put others before himself.
“My heart aches for the many loved ones Vincent Jackson leaves behind, from his wife and children to the Buccaneers nation that adored him. Mr Jackson was a devoted man who put his family and community above everything else,” Chronister expressed.
“Football aside, he touched countless lives through his Jackson In Action 83 Foundation. He will be sorely missed by not only football fans across the country, but also the people here in Hillsborough County who reaped the benefits of his generous contributions.”
Confirming the premature passing were also members of Jackson’s organization, the Jackson in Action 83 Foundation, who wrote:
“We are all mourning the loss of our beloved @VincentTJackson. His wife and family ask that everyone respect their privacy at this time.”
Jackson’s death remains under investigation and VanDeweghe is yet to comment on her husband’s passing.
