New York Mayoral Candidate Zohran Mamdani is causing outrage across the board after a resurfaced interview featuring his mother took center stage.
There, his mother, Mira Nair, spoke about her son in detail and how he is not an American at all. She described him as a total desi, adding how the family spoke Hindustani at home and were not firangs at all.
She further shed light on how he was born in Uganda and raised between India and the USA, and that he thinks of himself more as a Ugandan and Indian, instead of an American.
At the time of the interview, Mamdani was 21 and attending Bowdoin College, soon after that, he became a naturalised US citizen in 2018. His campaign team has since then been contacted for comments on the newly-unearthed remarks.
Democratic socialist once admitted that identifying himself as an African American would be severely misleading, despite him ticking that as his race on his Columbia University application.
Newly shared pictures and videos showed the 33 year old making the acknowledgement as he was sprayed with queries on the campaign trial about his heritage.
“I am Indian, Ugandan, New Yorker’- he shared to black performance artist Crackhead Barney when she approached him on the street in April.
