President Donald Trump is considering a takeover of the World Health Organization.
The news comes as he wishes to see a top or leading position from America rule the body.
One of the new President’s flurry of executive orders shared last month was to remove the country from the UN health agencies. He cited failing during the COVID-19 pandemic as a major reason and also slammed it for having close links with China.
But the country’s head of state will reportedly make use of the one-year exit time to negotiate plans for America to stay at the forefront of the company, as per Reuters.
The latest terms would appoint a special envoy to report to the president and the white house, overseeing reform negotiations before the country’s withdrawal next year.
This new envoy would also give rise to a Trump appointee filling the post of director general which was never held by any American.
In case you might be wondering, America is the biggest contributor to the WHO and provides close to 12 to 20% of the total yearly funding. In second place is Germany which stands at 9% of the WHO’s budget.
