Actor Tom Cruise is making headlines with his daredevil stunts.
This time around, he’s managed to hit those history books in more ways than one. Think along the lines of attaining the title for most burning parachute jumps by an individual, the organization shared on Thursday.
Cruise pulled off the feat 16 times while filming the movie: Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.
In the 18th installment of the action-packed franchise, Cruise’s super spy Ethan Hunt has a climactic showdown with his nemesis in the skies. Two fly biplanes are seen above the canyons and fields in South Africa’s Drakensberg mountain range.
The sequence ends with Ethan falling from one of the planes as it’s on fire, and then that breaks into pieces in midair.
He then deploys a parachute only to have that burst into flames and disintegrate. It forces him to deploy the backup parachute as he falls to the ground. In some of the takes, Cruise and the director outfitted the star with a 50-pound camera rig attached to his body and which captured a close-up of Ethan’s fall.
