Workers captured by Russian soldiers are reportedly being treated worse than prisoners and are only fed once per day.
Following the Russian overtake of the nuclear plants in Chernobyl and Zaporizhzhia, Ukrainian staff were forced to continue working at the sites under Russian supervision to ensure the safety of the facilities.
Since the Russian capture of these strategic locations, the United Nations’ nuclear watchdog expressed concerns over the unsafe work environments and the lack of food that captured workers are forced to make do with.
“I’m extremely concerned about these developments,” the International Atomic Energy Agency Director General, Rafael Grossi, warned.
“In order to be able to operate safely and securely, management and staff must be allowed to carry out their vital duties in stable conditions without undue external interference or pressure.”
Meanwhile, Daily Mail revealed that the power plant workers are extremely understaffed, starved, and deprived of sleep and rest.
“They are facing a very difficult situation and are starving, exhausted and depressed,” an insider with knowledge of the situation at the Chernobyl plant told the publication.
“With nowhere to sleep and no blankets, many are only sleeping for two to four hours on desks or wherever they can find a space.
“They are running out of food and are down to one meal of porridge a day. They are fed once every 24 hours, if there is enough they might get extra bread.”
The source also alleged that workers have begun stealing from each other and raiding lockers in hopes of finding medicine, food, and other essentials.
