Will Smith has reportedly been undergoing therapy following his notorious slap at the Oscars stage.
During the 94th Academy Awards on March 27, the King Richard star stormed the stage at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles and slapped presented Chris Rock in the face.
The shocking on-air assault followed just moments after the stand-up comedian joked about Jada Pinkett-Smith’s baldness in a G.I. Jane reference.
An insider with knowledge of Smith has now told Entertainment Tonight that the Hollywood A-lister has been “going to therapy after the Oscars incident.”
Last month, sources also entrusted the People magazine that the actor was seen in Mumbai on April 23 after allegedly flying to India to enjoy a spiritual trip involving yoga and meditation.
Will, however, has yet to apologize to Chris Rock in person, Page Six reported.
“Will’s ‘spiritual journey’ to India for yoga and meditation seems cynical and ridiculous, given that he hasn’t apologized personally to the one person he assaulted in front of millions. No amount of Namastes will make up for that,” a source told the publication last month.
Previously, days after the Oscars incident, Smith publicly apologized to Rock, The Academy, and the audience saying he was “embarrassed” by his own actions.
“Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable,” Smith wrote on Instagram.
“Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally.
“I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.”
He added: “I would also like to apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world.
“I would like to apologize to the Williams Family and my King Richard Family. I deeply regret that my behavior has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us.”
Signing off, Smith admitted that he was “a work in progress.”
