An urgent vaccination warning has been issued after a major tourist hotspot was recently declared to be an outbreak site for Hepatitis.
Four countries located in Europe that Australians frequently visit have been called out to have outbreaks of the very contagious disease, which is the Hepatitis A virus.
There is a major increase in liver infection, which was reported in Austria, Hungary, and Czechia, as well as Slovakia, with a total of 2097 cases in this year alone.
Slovakia is said to have had an outbreak since late 2022, and now its current cases stand at 880 for this year.
Meanwhile, Austria reported 87 cases, including three deaths, and Czechia saw close to 600 cases, including six deaths, with young kids getting affected the most.
Hungary saw 530 cases, and most of them belong to adults, while Germany, despite not being labeled as an affected nation, had three cases matching both Austria and Hungary.
A spokesperson for the Interim Australian Center for Disease Control warned Australians to take care regarding the current outbreak in Europe.
Travelers from Australia should be aware that Hepatitis A is very contagious and therefore should proceed with caution during this peak travel season.
