Donald Trump and wife Melania Trump might have just broken royal protocol, just minutes into the first full day of their UK state visit today.
As per a new report from The Mirror, the US President and First Lady were late to arrive and kept Prince William and Kate Middleton waiting. They were scheduled to meet the Prince and Princess of Wales at 12 pm, but Trump’s Marine One helicopter only started to hover over the walled garden area of Windsor estate at about 12 noon.
Shortly after touching down, Trump and Melania were greeted by Kate and William and taken a short distance where they met with King Charles III and Queen Camilla at the front of the gable ended Victoria House.
The Buckingham Palace Official website outlined that while there are no obligatory codes of behavior when meeting the King of members of the royal family, many people hoped they could observe the traditional forms.
This includes bowing or curtseying as well as using the right formal addresses, such as Your Majesty, when speaking to the King.
And King Charles has previously made it so clear that he’s not a huge fan of having to wait. During his coronation back in May of 2023, he and Camilla had arrived roughly five minutes early and had to wait inside the carriage before they could enter the church. As per Sky News, an expert lipreader alleged during the time that while he happened to be waiting, the King mentioned: ‘We can never be on time!’
