During his recent visit to Israel, US Vice President JD Vance was seen sharply condemning a preliminary Knesset vote advancing legislation that would be applicable to Israel’s sovereignty over other parts of the West Bank.
This was shocking, and he called the move a very stupid political stunt and stated that he personally would take some insult to it.
He further went on to emphasize that the Trump administration’s policy has been very clear-cut from day one. And that is how they were never keen on Israel annexing the West Bank. Meanwhile, Trump himself had made this very clear from the start that Israel needs to be on the same page as the US over this call.
Trump himself mentioned that he gave his word to Arab nations and even warned that any form of annexation would jeopardize the US support for Israel.
The legislation, seen as symbolic since it would need several more votes to become a law, passed its first reading by a narrow margin. This Israeli PM’s office called this vote a deliberate political provocation during the US official’s visit.
Trump has been hailed as a peacemaker in the Middle East, and following up on Israel’s intentions of annexing the West Bank would make him an absolute failure in this regard, experts claim.
