Zoo Encourages Public to Donate Unwanted Pets to Help Feed Resident Animals


A zoo in Denmark is raising eyebrows for rolling out a shocking post that not many animal lovers are taking positively.

The zoo is requesting assistance from the public for feeding its predators. It hopes that some of the kind visitors can offer some help in this process.

The Aalborg Zoo shared a callout through its page on social media, where it informed locals about how they can donate small pets to the zoo to assist in feeding the zoo’s predators.

The northern Denmark zoo mentioned in the post that chickens, rabbits, and guinea pigs were forming an important part of the diet of some of the bigger species. This is especially true for the European Lynx.

The biggest cat needed prey that would resemble what it called out as something that looked like what it naturally would hunt in the wild.

‘In zoos, they have a responsibility to imitate the animals’ natural food chain. This is both for reasons linked to animal warfare and professional integrity.
