Ukrainian-born Mila Kunis has spoken out on the Russian invasion as she and her husband Ashton Kutcher have launched a GoFundMe page to raise money and provide ‘immediate’ aid to refugees.
One million people have already fled Ukraine since the invasion began one week ago, the NPR reported.
The actress, who was born in Chernivsti, Ukraine, took to Instagram and spoke publicly about the conflict in her native country.
“I was born in Chernivtsi, Ukraine in 1983,” Mila said. “I came to America in 1991. I’ve always considered myself an American.
“A proud American. I love everything this country has done for myself and my family. But, today, I have never been more proud to be a Ukrainian.”
Ashton also said that he’s “never been more proud to be married to a Ukrainian.”
The 38-year-old actress continued: “The events that have unfolded in Ukraine are devastating. There is no place in this world for this kind of unjust attack on humanity.”
Ashton, 44, applauded the “bravery of the people of the country that (Mila) was born it.”
“We’re raising funds to support a relief effort that will have an immediate impact and supply much needed refugee and humanitarian aid to the area,” he continued.
“The principle challenge right now is logistics. We need to get housing and we need to get supplies and resources into the area.”
Mila and Ashton vowed to match up to $3,000,000 worth of donations to Airbnb.org and Flexport.org through a GoFundMe page they have launched.
The fundraiser says that freight transporter Flexport is organizing shipments of supplies to refugee sites in Slovakia, Romania, Poland, Moldova and Hungary.
“Standing with Ukraine means supporting Ukrainians,” Ashton wrote on Instagram.
