The Ukrainian president has once again called on NATO to do more to assist his country in its fight against Russian invaders.
In his heated speech, President Volodymyr Zelensky begged NATO for aircraft, tanks, and missiles to help Ukraine deal with Putin’s invasion.
While the West has been continuously providing Ukraine with provisions including anti-tank missiles, protective equipment, and small arms, planes and tanks have not yet been offered over fears that the move would pull NATO into a direct conflict with Russia.
Addressing NATO leaders, Zelensky asked for 1% of NATO’s aircraft and tanks before asking the West to have 1% of the courage of the Ukrainian soldiers who are standing their ground in the besieged port city of Mariupol.
“I’ve talked to the defenders of Mariupol today. I’m in constant contact with them. Their determination, heroism and firmness are astonishing,” he said.
“If only those who have been thinking for 31 days on how to hand over dozens of jets and tanks had one per cent of their courage.”
In a Saturday night address, Zelensky went on to take a jab at NATO by suggesting it looks like Russia is in charge of the Euro-Atlantic community.
“We need more ammunition. We’ve already been waiting 31 days. What is NATO doing? Who is in charge of the Euro-Atlantic community?” the president raged.
“Is it really still Moscow, because of intimidation? We are asking for one per cent of what NATO has, nothing more.”
During his speech, Zelensky also issued a warning to Russia as he claimed the Russian language will now be hated over its association with the invasion of Ukraine.
“You are doing everything so that our people themselves leave the Russian language, because the Russian language will now be associated only with you, with your explosions and murders, your crimes,” he said.
