The Ukrainian president has once again won the hearts of his countrymen as he paid a visit to the wounded soldiers at the Kyiv military hospital.
During his visit, President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked hospitalized troops for their service and awarded them medals for their bravery in their fight against the Russian oppressors.
“Guys, get well soon. I believe that the best gift for your statement will be our common victory!” Zelensky said.
According to the Ukrainian government, 106 servicemen have so far already been dubbed the “Heroes of Ukraine” and awarded accordingly. 17 of these awards were done posthumously.
Among the decorated soldiers is also Senior Lieutenant Hutsul Volodymyr Olesksandrovych who reportedly eliminated “about 300 invaders” and some 25 units of Russian equipment during his fight in the Kherson region.
Zelensky’s visit to the military hospital comes amid dire warnings about Russia’s plans to form a “pseudo-republic” in the south of Ukraine.
As the Ukrainian president claimed on Sunday, Russians were resorting to briberies and blackmail to force southern officials to conform to their rule and help them form a pseudo-republic region similar to that of Luhansk and Donetsk in the East.
“The invaders in the Kherson region are trying to repeat the notorious experience of the formation of pseudo-republics,” Zelensky said.
“They blackmail local leaders, put pressure on deputies, look for someone to bribe. They’re trying to organize the so-called KPR … and create some committees against the legitimate government on our land and against the will of the people who protest every day.”
Warning that Russia is working to create a fake republic in the south was also Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba who said.
“Following 2014 playbook, Russians now desperately try to organize a sham ‘referendum’ for a fake ‘people’s republic’ in Kherson.
“Given zero popular support, it will be fully staged. Severe sanctions against Russia must follow if they proceed. Kherson is & will always be Ukraine.”
