In pictures and videos reminiscent of the 1989 ‘tank man’ of China’s Tiananmen Square, hundreds of Ukrainians have taken to streets to block roads and stop Russian military vehicles from marching on the capital of Kyiv.

While it is not clear how or when did the confrontation come to an end, this isn’t the first example of the bravery of the Ukrainian people.

After the tank came to a stop, onlookers tried to pull the man away to stop him from getting killed. The defiant man, however, dropped down on his knees before eventually walking off the road.
