Hundreds of Ukrainian civilians have taken to the streets to block the Russian troops from advancing towards a nuclear plant.
Determined to protect their country from the invaders, brave Ukrainian civilians, including women and children, have formed human barricades on the road leading to the nuclear plant in Zaporizhzhia.
In a bid to take over strategic points in the country, Russian forces have previously occupied the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
Now, the invaders are reportedly moving onto Europe’s largest nuclear plant which lies in the city of Zaporizhzhia.
To stop or delay their advance, brave civilians blocked the main road near Enerhodar using sandbags, garbage trucks, and even their own bodies.
“This is how Enerhodar – its civilians – women and men, protect their city,” Mayor Dmitri Orlov said as he urged the people to stand together against the oppressors.
“They will continue to protect it. Now, more than ever, we need to mobilize our forces, to be together, so that the enemy does not enter the city, which is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe! Let’s be ready, friends!”
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s interior ministry advisor, Anton Gerashchenko, warned that another nuclear disaster similar to the one in Chernobyl could happen if the Russians are allowed to have their way.
“Because of Vladimir Putin’s madness, Europe is again on the brink of a nuclear catastrophe,” Gerashchenko said.
“The city where the largest nuclear power plant in Europe is located is preparing for a battle with the invaders.
“An accident can happen like at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant or the Fukushima nuclear power plant. Russian generals – think again! Radiation does not know nationalities, does not spare anyone!”
