President Trump is considering weighing in on whether or not to shift marijuana to a less severe drug classification group after getting millions of dollars from cannabis firms.
Trump shared more details about how he was considering the possibility during a recent fundraising event at his New Jersey golf club, where a seat cost nearly $1 million, as per insiders.
One of the main attendees of that fundraiser happened to be the CEO of a cannabis firm called Trulieve. This was known to have donated huge sums to Trump, as per insiders.
The Department of Health and Human Services currently groups the drug in the highest classification group. Other Schedule 1 drugs include the likes of LSD, heroin, and ecstasy.
While marijuana continues to be a federally controlled substance, as many as 24 different states have legalized it for recreational use, and 40 states have so for medical purposes.
Now, if the current administration wishes to reclassify this drug, it would make it so much simpler to purchase and sell, not to mention boost profits for an already huge multibillion-dollar industry. The president has been so vocal about the fact that he doesn’t use any drugs or drink alcohol. However, his late brother, Fred Trump Jr., is believed to have struggled with matters like alcoholism for most of his life before he passed away in 1981.
