US President Donald Trump shared on Wednesday that he ended up authorizing the CIA to conduct secret operations in Venezuela.
The NYT shared for the first time a new direction where American officials were quoted as privately about the administration’s strategy, which entails a focus on getting rid of President Nicolás Maduro from power.
Trump mentioned how his administration was mulling a land attack on the country, amid sharply escalating tensions after several US strikes on boats in the country that were located in the Caspian Sea in recent times, and troop buildup in those waters ordered by the American head of state.
US strikes on such boats have now become the norm. Maduro appeared on national TV on Wednesday, urging restraint and sending out warnings against making the matter worse or causing further escalation on this front.
‘No to regime change that reminds us of the failed wars in Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan. No to coups carried out by the CIA, as Latin America does not want it and does not need it and strongly rejects it’- the post read in regards to the announcement made by Trump.
