Donald Trump’s journey to London for his state visit was nearly thrust into a major tragedy after a Spirit Airlines passenger jet reportedly crossed paths with the US President’s Air Force One.
The incident took place on Tuesday after a flight nearly rammed into the presidential Boeing 747 over Long Island. The Air Traffic controller noticed that the planes were at a similar altitude and were heading for a collision after he tried to warn the Spirit Pilots to alter their course.
Luckily, the planes remained at a safe distance of several miles from one another, but a recording of the exchange between the pilots and controller had been shared on social media.
The audio showed the dispatcher giving sharp orders: ‘Spirit 1300, turn right 20 degrees. Do it now!’- the crew then added a hint that the other plane was linked to the US President.
They then added: The traffic is to the left of your wing at a distance of six to eight miles. 747, I am sure you can see who that is!’- the post read.
And in the end, the controller could not resist a harsh remark to the Spirit pilots: ‘Be careful! Put that iPad down!’- they added.
