The head of the Nobel Peace Prize is trying hard to justify not honoring Trump with an award.
He subtly suggested the American Head of State was not worthy of the accolade despite his historic breakthroughs in seeking the end of the Israel-Hamas war.
Nobel Committee chair Jorgen Watne Frydnes was asked about the clamor to give the prize to Trump, who had said it would be a serious insult to the US not to award it to him.
However, the deadline for the nominations was January 31, which is just days into Trump’s second term in office, meaning all nominations Trump has earned this year for settling conflicts across the globe would be limited to the 2026 prize.
Still, instead of pointing out the timing, Frydnes suggested that a last-minute switch couldn’t be done because the US leader does not live up to it.
‘In the long history of the Nobel Peace Prize, I think this committee has seen so many types of campaigns, media attention’- he added without naming Trump in particular. ‘We receive thousands and thousands of letters each year of people wanting to say what, for them, leads to peace’- he added.
