A high-speed train carrying nearly 400 passengers collided with a heavy goods-laden vehicle with fruits after the truck became stuck on a level crossing in the Netherlands.
The incident took place near the village of Meteren in central Netherlands at nearly 11:20 am on October 30, 2025. CCTV footage shows the truck entering the crossing as regular traffic, then trying to reverse after another vehicle approached from the opposite side.
While this took place, the crossing alarms started getting active, and the barriers descended that trapping a part of the vehicle on the live rails.
The train just could not pull the brakes and stop in time, smashing into the rear portion of the truck. Pears from the truck were thrown across the tracks as a result of the major impact. Fortunately, there were only minor injuries that arose. Five people present inside the truck were injured, and the train passengers were safely evacuated.
The rail infrastructure sustained serious damage, reportedly up to a kilometer of track needed replacement due to this serious impact.
Officials from the Dutch rail agency ProRail issued a caution alert after this incident took place. They advised motorists who became stuck on crossings to prioritize escape over waiting for barriers, noting that breaking through is much safer than remaining trapped inside.
