Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee shared how the devastating blaze in Hong Kong has now resulted in a death toll of nearly 65 fears as hundreds more are missing.
He fears that this means the death toll could rise further as victims try to recover from the thought of never seeing their homes, loved ones, and belongings again.
Every affected housing unit would be paid $1285 by tonight, and the government would go on to establish a $38 million fund for future payments.
The officials in Hong Kong have confirmed that the city will be fully transitioning away from bamboo and will make the necessary switch to steel scaffolding, which is said to be more fireproof.
Three men from a construction firm engaged in maintenance work at this site, and since then, they’ve been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter, according to the cops. They claim they were grossly negligent.
Meanwhile, fire authorities confirmed that the fire at four of the residential buildings was extinguished and blazes at the others continue to burn, but they are under control.
All this campaigning for the Hong Kong legislative elections scheduled for December 7 was suspended during the firefighting and recovery efforts as confirmed by Hong Kong press reports.
