Tom Brady is reportedly “hurting” after his wife’s decision to bring in divorce lawyers following their surprise split.

Days ago, it was reported that NFL legend Tom Brady and supermodel Gisele Bündchen are parting ways after numerous sources suggested the couple had a massive fight following the athlete’s decision to resume his football career just weeks after announcing retirement.

Now, an insider with knowledge of the 45-year-old told People that it is “pretty obvious” that Brady is “hurting” because he doesn’t want his divorce to escalate into a full-blown fight.

Speaking to the magazine, the source suggested Bündchen is “the one steering the divorce,” whereas Brady only sought legal advice after his wife caught him by surprise by hiring divorce attorneys.

“She is playing offense and he is playing defense. He wants to protect himself, protect his interests, but he’s only starting to go the legal route in his defense from her,” the insider said.

“He doesn’t want this to be ugly, he doesn’t want to fight. If the divorce is happening — and it seems like it is — he wants it to go as smoothly as possible.”

As sources previously suggested, the model is furious over the NFL quarterback’s decision to resume his sports career just weeks after announcing that he was retiring.

She previously spoke out about the matter back in September in a bombshell interview with Elle in which she suggested she has made her fair share of sacrifices for her family.

“I’ve done my part, which is be there for him. I moved to Boston, and I focused on creating a cocoon and a loving environment for my children to grow up in and to be there supporting him and his dreams,” she said.

Taking a jab at her husband’s career, she added: “This is a very violent sport, and I have my children and I would like him to be present. I have definitely had those conversations with him over and over again.”

The divorce, which could potentially turn very ugly should the pair be unable to reach an agreement on how to split their properties, comes after Brady and Bündchen reportedly lived apart for more than a month over their differences.
