Actor James Van Der Beek was seen reflecting on how he told his six children about his stage 3 colorectal cancer diagnosis.
Eight months after sharing his cancer diagnosis with the world, the celeb candidly mentioned how he spoke to his kids, whom he shares with wife Kimberly Van Der Beek, regarding all of his health journey.
‘I am far from an expert, but our approach was just to be as honest as possible, as honest to the degree of their understanding, right? Because they know’- the star mentioned during his appearance on the third hour.
The Dawson’s Creek alum added how his kids can sense that dad’s having a rough day, and therefore he didn’t wish to hide anything from them.
They know that if dad’s in pain, then it’s confusing them even more, he added. The actor has six children, who include four daughters and two sons, whom he explained are his world.
Since then, he’s been seen advising other parents who might be in a similar situation to allow themselves to be surprised by the kids’ resiliency. ‘When you tell them what you’re doing, and you tell them the approach, they can see it and they can feel it’- he revealed.
