Japan was recently struck by a mega tsunami where waves reportedly reached five feet on Wednesday as the biggest earthquake in modern history caused millions to evacuate.
The tidal waves hit parts of Russia, Japan, and the US in the aftermath of a magnitude 8.8 earthquake. The quake reportedly hit Russia’s eastern Kamchatka Peninsula.
Close to two million people were seen receiving alerts to evacuate the country in the morning, with many leaving by car and some on foot to reach safer ground.
Evacuation orders were similarly issued to some parts of the US, the West Coast, and Colombia as waves approaching 15 feet spread across the entire Pacific Ocean.
The earthquake was reported to be the sixth most powerful one to date and the strongest in the region since the year 1952.
Aftershocks of nearly 7.5 magnitude were also expected. Several people were injured by the initial tremor in Russia, with mega aftershocks reported throughout the morning hours. Sirens blared across the US state of Hawaii as residents were warned to evacuate or get shelter on the fourth floor of high-rise buildings. Today, millions of Americans are under various levels of warnings as waves are expected to land throughout the night.
