A 15-year-old woman was reportedly struck by a vehicle head-on while she was riding her motorbike.

Ivana Marcela Lopez Muralles and the driver that she came with had to head on, ending up crashing into each other, as neither one of them was able to slam the brakes in time.

The pick-up reportedly hurtled down the road at speed, ran her over, and dragged her several yards before coming to a standstill.

Muralles was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver whose identity was yet to be disclosed was reportedly detained by authorities. His motorbike ended up getting trapped under the vehicle’s chassis in Nueva Concepcion, southwest Guatemala, last night on Thursday. The young victim was a fixture at school and local beauty pageants from a young age.

Her hearse was adorned with all the slashes from the pageants she had won at her funeral on Saturday. Her tribute by loved ones spoke about how she was remembered for her beauty and charm, but also her humility, which always defined her, and her spirit of solidarity towards other people.
