Taylor Swift was booed by angry New York Giants fans on Monday night after an ad promoting her next concert lit up the screen at the MetLife stadium.
The awkward incident came just hours after the pop star watched her new boyfriend Travis Kelce play with Kansas City Chiefs against the New York Jets in the Meadowlands.
During the Sunday game, the NFL came under fire after it was revealed they cut to the singer on 17 different occasions rather than focusing on the sport itself.
Further infuriating fans of football, the league then also shared a message announcing the Chiefs’ win saying: “The Chiefs are 2-0 as Swifties.”
Following the post and the excessive coverage of the singer during all the games she attends, critics suggested football was getting destroyed by Swift’s takeover.
“In case anyone didn’t hear, Taylor Swift was at the game. And NBC made it really annoying,” sports writer Jeff Pearlman complained on Twitter shortly after.
“The wall-to-wall coverage of Taylor Swift at this game is annoying AF. I don’t even like football and I agree it’s destroying football. Just enough,” Fox contributor Tomi Lahren added.
Meanwhile, thousands of fans slammed the Taylor Swift coverage and suggested the singer doesn’t belong in football just because she’s dating an NFL star for a few days.
The massive backlash comes shortly after reality star Bethenny Frankel slammed the singer for acting like a “full football wife” with her intense cheering and reactions in the stadium.
“She was really, really over the top as a fan and chumming with the mom,” the 52-year-old TV personality and entrepreneur said.
“And it felt like the Chia Pet of relationships, like, just add water. Like, they were together for 10 years. Like, she’s a full football wife.”
Further infuriating Swifties, Frankel warned the singer not to try and force her way into the football scene.
“People in their own spaces are wary of newcomers. Like, it took a long time for Gisele [Bündchen] to be a football wife [to Tom Brady],” she added.
“Football fans are very tricky. They like loyalists, like, ride or die. They’re not interested in people coming in for a short ride.”
