A two-year-old girl from Georgia has reportedly passed away after drowning at her brother’s swim team event, the family’s lawyer has confirmed.
The attorney shared how the toddler drowned at Oakhurst Pool in Decatur on the afternoon of Friday. The lawyer mentioned how she attended a kick-off event at the pool with her mother, brother, and sister.
The pool was said to be closed to the public in the afternoon hours, and there was no one else there besides the one family and the three lifeguards, during that time of the incident, sources shared.
Local outlets added how Poppy’s older sibling saw her in the pool and alerted the lifeguard about what was going on. The staff rushed to rescue her and started to perform CPR when EMS arrived. The outlet also mentioned how the child was rushed back to a hospital, but unfortunately, just couldn’t survive.
‘She loved her brother and her sister and grandparents fiercely, and they called her Poppy Girl, and she represented just unconditional love’ – Brooks told Atlanta News First.
A rep for the City of Decatur explained how an investigation is taking place at this moment in time. There is still no statement released from the respective parties involved as the loved ones mourn a tragic loss.
