Britteny Griner’s supporters aren’t backing down until the star WNBA player comes home.
A huge rally was organized by the Phoenix Mercury recently in support of the leading sportswomen. She was recently declared guilty during her drug trial in Russia. This was followed by shocking 10-year-long jail imprisonment that has left many of her fans, followers, team members, and loved ones in an absolute state of shock and heartbreak.
Russian prosecutors have alleged that the player was carrying cannabis oil when she arrived at the Russian airport which is a criminal offense.
Brittney did admit to carrying the oil but had no intention of breaking the law as she didn’t know. She had just entered the nation to be a part of the country’s national team but things spiraled downwards when she was immediately taken into Russian custody.
Phoenix Mercury was the team that Brittney was a star of and now they’re speaking out against Russia’s legal system that has taken away their team’s knight in shining armor.
Many players remember Brittney as the glue who pulled them together during the team’s most difficult moments. And they can’t even begin to imagine what it would feel like without having a supporter like her.
Dozens of fans of the WNBA player could be seen lining up on the streets while holding signs during a massive public rally that was held in the sportswomen’s honor. They hoped their love and support and sentiments would be heard across borders into Russia where Brittney is now present behind bars.
