During the 94th Academy Awards on March 28, Hollywood A-lister Will Smith notoriously stormed the stage and slapped Oscars host Chris Rock in the face after the latter made a joke about his wife’s baldness.

Plenty of fellow comedians, presenters, and TV stars have since spoken out and slammed the King Richard actor who has since been banned from Oscars for ten years.

Among Smith’s critics was also Steve Harvey who revealed that Chris Rock is his good friend as he called the actor’s slap a “punk move.”

“I texted Rock after that and he said, ‘I’m okay, man. Just trying to work through it.’ I think he handled it admirably,” the 65-year-old presenter said in a conversation with Professor Mo Ivory of Georgia State University.

“They’re going to have to go to four commercial breaks. I’m not saying I wouldn’t get slapped. But I’m just saying, before you sit your a** back in your chair, Jada and everybody else have got to move out of the way, because we’re going to be down there moving furniture around, partner.”

Harvey went on to slam Smith’s response to the on-air assault as he recalled the actor casually collecting his award just moments later and then attending an afterparty in the evening.

“That was such a Hollywood move. He knew he could get away with that. That’s why he did it. That’s all that he is, man,” the tv presenter added.

“I lost a lot of respect for him that day…And then at the party he’s holding the Oscar dancing. Ah nah, homey, nah…I just thought it was soft, just a chump move.”
