A high school track star who struck an opponent in the head using a baton has now broken silence on the matter after getting disqualified.
According to reports from local media outlets, the video shared a few days back left America fuming as many wondered why it took the authorities so long to come to a decision when it was clearly a major offense.
However, the track star who hit the opponent in the head using the baton spoke out after getting disqualified and her words are again raising concerns.
She insists that it was a serious accident and that she does not get why she is receiving major backlash as if this was intentional.
The incident arose last week on Friday during the second leg of the 4×200 meter relay at the indoor championship at the Liberty University in Virginia.
Alaila Everett, who is a senior at the IC Norcom High School, hit her competitor, Kaelen Tucker of Brookville High School, on the head and that led to her attaining a serious concussion and possibly a skull fracture.
The footage shows her getting injured and then clutching on to her head and collapsing down on the ground as the blow was so forceful that it knocked her out of the race.
