Many felt that world leaders should know better and consider leaving their phones inside their pockets for the pontiff’s funeral. But that’s not the case.

A huge number of dignitaries couldn’t resist taking out their phones to take pictures and videos of the late Pope’s humble wooden casket as it was carried back towards St. Peter’s Basilica.

Many were seated in the front row, including President Trump, French President Macron, and Finnish President Stubb. They all burst into applause, but those standing behind them had other things on their minds. And that includes catching the moment live to cherish later.

It was a key moment of the ceremony when the world’s most important leaders were careful to show respect. However, at the same time, some dignitaries pulled out their phones and started to film.

Among those clicking were Switzerland’s president and the Deputy Speaker of Uganda, who even went ahead to tweet the moment when the coffin was carried out.
