Former NFL superstar Mark Sanchez allegedly threw a 69-year-old man into a wall after getting into a drunken brawl.
According to reports from local media outlets, the incident ended with him getting stabbed in the chest. The former Jets quarterback was hospitalized with serious stab wounds on Saturday but is now said to be in a stable condition following the overnight altercation between himself and an unidentified man in downtown Indianapolis.
The 38-year-old was allegedly said to be slurring his words and behaving erratically moments before the stabbing took place, as per police records.
Sanchez, who remains inside the hospital, has since then been charged with battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication.
The other person involved in this incident was treated for serious lacerations, as per the Indianapolis Metropolitan Department.
He’s a 69-year-old male who suffered serious injuries, as shared by Fox News affiliate WXIN, citing police sources. The sources further added that Sanchez was behaving erratically before this stabbing by doing wind sprints inside the alley before confronting the driver.
The man explained to officers that he was acting in self-defense when Sanchez was stabbed inside the chest near the Loughmiller’s Pub & Entry in the early hours of the morning.
The duo was seen getting into an argument over the man’s decision to park his truck at a loading dock to collect used cooking oil, which is a probable cause affidavit seen by the Indy Star. As per court documents, the man was left with a major slash across his left cheek, and since then, he has been released from the hospital.
