Passenger ‘sliced open’ after water slide breaks on world’s largest cruise ship


A passenger was sliced open after a water slide ended up breaking on the Icon of the Seas cruise ship.

The male passenger had reportedly received lacerations to his back and his leg when a section of the Frightening Bolt slide cracked on Thursday.

Footage showed water gushing through a massive gaping hole inside the slide as terrified passengers demanded that the crew shut it down.

The passenger didn’t fall through the hole but did receive serious cuts while speeding over the broken edge. He did get medical attention on board and is said to be in a stable condition.

The mega slide, which is 46 feet high, is located inside the ship’s Thrill Island area and has the biggest drop at sea. It entails a trapdoor launch and a 360-degree loop.

The cruise ship was said to be heading towards the Royal Caribbean’s CocoCay island and would return back to Miami. This seven day round trip sees it docking at the St. Maarten, which is the US Virgin Islands and Bahamas. As of right now, the company issued a statement on the matter including how the guest is being treated for their injuries which includes pieces of acrylic glass, while the slide was closed until further notice.
