A woman is opening up about the devastating illness that led to the life-saving quadruple amputation.
Jane Haley, who worked as an accountant from Canada, says she came down with a serious infection involving strep throat. For nearly a week to 10 days, she took her medications and was beginning to feel better. But little did she realize that within just two months, her health would be taking a turn for the worse.
‘Towards August end, I began to have serious pain in my jaw and cheek, and then in the left side of my neck!’- she mentioned to Kennedy News and the press.
She spoke about how her glands were just swelling up to take care of an infection or whatever was starting in her jaw. At first, she thought she was going through some kind of flare-up related to her TMJ disorder, which is a condition that gives rise to serious pain in the jaw and muscles.
‘That’s the last thing that I recall,’- she added. ‘One minute I was fine and the next I was not fine and I was being rushed to the ICU’- she continued.
Her heart rate and blood pressure rose, and she was put into a medically induced coma. She was diagnosed with Group A Streptococcus, which resulted in Toxic Shock Syndrome. It got so bad that they had to amputate her legs below the knee.
