The family of champion figure skater Julia Marie Gaiser has reportedly broken their silence after her tragic death.
The 23-year-old star was said to be struck by a turning lorry while riding on a bike during her Austria trip. She was reportedly hit in Salzburg at 2:30 pm on Thursday while trying to continue across an intersection as the lorry turned right into her path.
Emergency responders were seen rushing to the scene, but it was in vain because despite their attempts to resuscitate the young star, she was unable to make it. She is reported to have passed away at the scene, as confirmed by the Red Cross recently.
Local authorities launched an investigation into the accident. A breathalyzer test was performed on the truck driver, but that came back with negative results.
The young ice skater may have been in the driver’s blind spot at the time, as suggested by early details.
Miss Gaiser is said to have originated from Brixen in South Tyrol and was believed to be studying at a university in Salzburg when she was killed. Her family says that they have lost the light of their household as they try to cope with the tragedy while being numb with grief.
