The father of 20-year-old National Guard member Sarah Beckstrom spoke to the New York Times on Thursday and shared how his daughter is not expected to recover from the mortal wound she suffered a day before, right after an Afghan migrant shot her and another troop member in Washington, DC.
“I am holding her hand right now’- he mentioned to The Times when reached by phone. She has a mortal wound, and it’s not going to be recovered, he sadly declared. He refused to speak further on this matter.
Beckstrom was identified alongside fellow guardsman Andrew Wolfe as the two victims of the heinous attack on Wednesday. She’s a native of Summersville, West Virginia, and has been serving the nation since the middle of 2023.
Both officers were deployed since August, when Trump sent in troops to the nation’s capital to crack down on crime.
Now, more than 500 troops have been sent to DC to help curb the growing rise in crime incidents. Meanwhile, the suspected shooter, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, is said to be in a stable state in the hospital after being wounded in the incident.
