BREAKING: Sesame Street Creator Lloyd Morrisett Has Passed Away


Sesame Street co-creator Lloyd Morrisett has passed away at the age of 93.

Morrisett, who co-founded Sesame Workshop and co-created Sesame Street, died on Monday, his official social media account confirmed.

“Sesame Workshop mourns the passing of our esteemed and beloved co-founder Lloyd N. Morrisett, PhD, who died at the age of 93,” the statement announcing the sad news read.

“Lloyd leaves an outsized and indelible legacy among generations of children the world over, with Sesame Street only the most visible tribute to a lifetime of good work and lasting impact.”

Morrisett was best known for co-creating Sesame Street and co-founding Sesame Workshop along with Joan Ganz Cooney back in 1968 after realizing that the power of television could be used to educate children.

As his business partner and close friend Joan Ganz Cooney put it, there would be no Sesame Street without Lloyd’s genius thinking and determination to use television for something good and productive.

“Without Lloyd Morrisett, there would be no Sesame Street. It was he who first came up with the notion of using television to teach preschoolers basic skills, such as letters and numbers,” she said after his passing.

“He was a trusted partner and loyal friend to me for over fifty years, and he will be sorely missed.”
