Third-floor balcony near University of Cincinnati collapses, sending 10 people to hospital


Tragic reports are speaking about a terrifying on-campus incident that took place on the third balcony floor near the University of Cincinnati.

According to local media outlets, a third-floor wooden balcony ended up collapsing at a student-occupied off-campus building. The collapse arose at about 10 pm, reportedly during a gathering of students that happened to be celebrating an exam completion.

Initial reports spoke about how at least 10 people ended up getting injured and rushed to the nearby hospital as a result of the wounds they sustained after the fall.

One person is said to be in a critical condition as they sustained life-threatening injuries, sources shared. Five others were said to be hospitalized for wounds that were not called out as life-threatening. Four more sustained minor injuries and were therefore released after medical aid.

The balcony fell roughly 20 feet to the ground near a parking lot. Several emergency response units were dispatched from the Cincinnati Fire Department, and the police responded to the scene.

This building was outlined as not being part of the official university housing system. However, many students did live there. As per the authorities, the exact number of people on the balcony at the time of collapse is still unknown, and the cause continues to be investigated.
