At least 99 students were injured after the prayer hall at the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School collapsed in Indonesia. Three people, including a 13-year-old boy, have been confirmed dead by the police.
Officials mentioned how 65 more students, mostly males between the ages of 12 to 17, are still said to be buried beneath concrete slabs and twisted steel. The number of people dead is expected to rise as rescuers struggle through unstable debris.
Hundreds of rescuers including disaster response teams, cops, and soldiers worked thorugh the ntight after this building came down during the afternoon prayers on Monday.
They used breathing gear, cutting tools, and stretchers to reach all the survivors while avoiding any kind of further collapse, sources added.
Rescuers mentioned how they’d seen several dead bodies but were focusing more on saving those who were still alive. Rescue teams were forced to dig by hand and use light tools because the wreckage is dangerously unstable at this moment in time. Heavy machinery is on standby but mostly avoided for fear it might trigger another serious collapse.
