The Russian TV editor who interrupted a state channel’s live broadcast with an anti-war protest has been released from custody.
43-year-old Marina Ovsyannikova is a TV editor from Russia who wielded an anti-war sign as she stormed the state-controlled Channel One’s live broadcast.
Just seconds after her brave call for an end to Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, the broadcast was cut off and Marina was arrested.
Now, it has come to light that the anti-war activist has finally been released from police custody after being held at an undisclosed location for more than half a day.
According to Marina, she was denied legal counsel and barred from contacting her family or friends during the interrogation by the Russian authorities.

I’ve gone two days without sleep, more than 14 hours in custody, they didn’t allow me to contact those close to me or to receive any legal counsel.point 124 | I found myself in a really tough situation,” the TV editor said after her release.point 194 | 1
“All further comments will come tomorrow, because today I really need to rest.”
As of this writing, it remains unclear what sort of agreement – if any – was reached between the two parties.
While people have raised concerns that the TV editor could be jailed for up to 15 years amid Kremlin’s crackdown on what they ironically call “public dissemination of false information,” Marina reportedly made it off with a $300 fine.
