Russia has renewed its threats to the West as it warned that the European Union will face a “harsh response” over its sanctions.
Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and continuous battle for Kyiv and other cities, the West, including the US, the UK, and the EU, have imposed economic, diplomatic, military, sport, and cultural sanctions on Russia.
Ranging from abandoned trade deals to cancelation of Russia from sports events to cutting Russian banks from the SWIFT payment system, the EU has vowed to punish Putin for his attack on Ukraine while devoting some $560 million to support Ukraine’s military.
“Half a billion euros [$560 million] will be devoted to providing defensive arms, high-caliber arms, and anti-tank [equipment] — all kinds of agreements in order to repel the aggression,” EU Foreign Minister Josep Borrell confirmed.
“We have to coordinate what we are doing and what we can do additionally with these resources.”
Following the EU’s financial aid of Ukraine, Moscow has promised a “harsh response” and warned the citizens and structures of the bloc to avoid supporting Ukraine or face dire consequences.
“EU citizens and structures involved in supplying lethal weapons and fuel and lubricants to the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be responsible for any consequences of such actions in the context of the ongoing special military operation,” Russia’s foreign ministry warned.
“They cannot fail to understand the degree of danger of the consequences.”
A Russian spokesperson went on to call the sanctions against the country “illegitimate” before calling the West’s dominance “a thing of the past.”
“The actions of the European Union will not go unanswered. Russia will continue to ensure the realization of its vital national interests without regard to sanctions and their threats,” they added.
“It is time for Western countries to understand that their undivided dominance in the global economy is long a thing of the past.”
